Our Story
3rd & 4th Generation, One Standard
Founded by Charles Godshall
Godshall's Poultry has been a fixture of Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market since 1916, when Charles Godshall first opened the stall. What began as a family commitment to the freshest whole birds, eggs and garden foods has been passed down through four generations. For more than a century, the counter has stood for the same thing: fresh, locally raised poultry, cut by hand, by people who know the product.
The business remains family-owned, now carried forward by the third and fourth generations, including current owners Steve and Bryce Frankenfield. Every bird still comes from local farms, raised without antibiotics or hormones. Every cut is still made behind the counter, to order, the way it always has been.
Today that tradition continues across four showcases facing three aisles in the Market. Godshall's is a full-service poultry counter offering over 100 chicken, turkey, duck, goose and egg items — along with homemade sausages, smoked products, specialty game birds and custom cuts — all selected and prepared with the same care that has defined the stall from the beginning. The commitment is simple: the freshest poultry in Philly, day after day.
